How to Choose Suitable Baby Toys for 0 to 6 Months

Posted by SunbabyIndia at 00:30 0 comments
The minute babies are removed from the womb, they start to develop knowledge of what is going on around them. Each day, a baby will have more skills than the previous day. Choosing baby toys that are suitable for their age and needs will allow you to help them learn more.

Think Noise

Even while developing in the womb, a baby could hear "noises". Enrich their hearing with soft toys that create different noises, for example small stuffed animals with bells inside of them, soft rattles with soft handles, or a small squeaky animal.

 Baby Playmats Online

Get a Baby Play Mat

This is the cheapest and most efficient toy to give to a baby. If you can't find one, you can use a padded blanket for the baby to play on. If you choose blankets, you'll need to watch closely and to place the baby in a crib when they go to sleep. Play mats give the baby the opportunity to lie on a soft surface and play with toys. As the months go by, it will also give them the opportunity to have room to roll over and crawl on.

Invest in Baby Mirrors.

Babies love to look at things, especially a close-up of themselves. Attach a mirror on their play mat for more entertainment.

Attach a Baby Mobile to a Crib.

Make your baby feel comfortable that there's still "friends" (toys) with him/her while they go to sleep. The soothing music creates an extra security blanket.

Get a Teether or Two.

You'll want to be the most prepared when that first set of teeth comes in. Always leave them in the freezer or refrigerator until that "special moment". Teethers are also great gnawing toys.

Tips

Always think safety. Refrain from getting anything with sharp edges, things that could break easily, or things that could wear & tear more often. Look for non-toxic toys and other items that would not harm the baby if they decide to put it in their mouth.

Avoid getting recalled products. Always refrain from getting anything like water balls that are easily mistaken as candy, pacifiers that are recalled, and everything else that is recalled.

Avoid letting a baby sleep with stuffed animalsYou want to have a clean and clear crib with minimum items, including blankets.

Rings and other soft toys can always be washed with soapBabies love to explore what's around them and will try to gnaw on everything.

Bouncers and baby gyms are perfect for entertainment. They also can be moved anywhere that you go, including the kitchen while you prepare meals.

How to Pick out a Stroller for Your Baby

Posted by SunbabyIndia at 01:01 1 comments
At first, it might seem that all you need from a baby strollers is something that can roll your baby around, but there are a surprising number of factors you can take into account when shopping for one.

Here are some Tips:

Choose a very durable stroller if you plan on having another child later.

It's better to have a stroller that lasts through the wear and tear of multiple children than to have to buy a new one every time. If you plan on having another child soon, consider a multiple occupancy stroller.

Test out the Belts and Buckles.

Practice putting a doll in the stroller and make sure it's not only comfortable for the baby, but also easy for you. You don't want a belt system so complicated that you'll have to spend 15 minutes fiddling with it or worse, you'll stop using it because it's too much of a hassle.

Check to see if the seat is removable, so that it can be washed easily.

Make sure the handle is comfortable for your height.

Most strollers have adjustable handles but if you're especially short or tall, you'll want to double check.

Spanking and Scolding your Kid? Well…Think Again

Posted by SunbabyIndia at 23:55 1 comments

"Your violence against your child, or inefficiency in defending your child from violence by other family members, reveals YOUR WEAKNESS and INCAPABILITY as a parent! Next time, before you indulge or let others indulge in such acts...THINK AGAIN!!
Read this blog for supporting evidence against ALL FORMS OF VIOLENCE against children."

Many a times, we might have come across parents (or may be those parents!) who feel that scolding or slapping a child is the best way to inculcate in them "the lessons of life". These parents feel that when a child doesn't obey, or follow "their rules", then it is the parents' duty to use this weapon of theirs to discipline their child.

If you too believe in this theory...then SORRY!...you're grossly mistaken!

Let me put across few reasons why you should NOT hit your child.

1. You're not the OWNER of your child – you're a parent. God didn't give you an "object" to be made prim and proper, rather a "human being" whom you have to raise to the best of your abilities, and love and care accepting all flaws and shortcomings. Discover new ways to put your point across instead of following this easy but completely flawed route.

2. Think if whole of the world thought that hitting solves the problems, we all would have been out on the roads with sticks and rods—hitting almost everyone whom we meet! Hitting imposes your superiority—it doesn't make you a parent, it makes you a dictator!

3. Studies reveal a link between physical punishment and the risk of mood disorders and mental illness in kids. In fact, child maltreatment may even scar your child's brain! Studies show that the brain activity in children raised in violent homes resembled that seen in soldiers exposed to combat.

4. It's not just the physical hitting that's harmful. The effects of verbal abuse, tongue-lashing and emotionally charged loud outbursts are even more dangerous. Mental scars last longer than the physical ones! Threats to abandon the child if he/she doesn't obey you—like saying "I'll leave you if you do this" or saying "I'll slap you if you don't do this"—makes your child believe that he/she, after all, isn't so important to you. Withdrawal of your love can mean the end of trust that the parent and the child are bound to share.

5. Physical hitting as well as "verbal slaps" lowers your child's self-esteem. The child may start having a feeling of inferiority…a sense of being imperfect and not "up to the mark" for you or even for the world.

6. Maria Montessori, the pioneer of Montessori method of education, believed that children's hands are tools for exploring, an extension of the child's natural curiosity. Slapping them sends a powerful negative message.

7. Hitting does not improve the behaviour. In fact, the more you hit, the more the child misbehaves—either in front of you or behind your back. The more you hit, the lesser respect the child ends up having for you!

8. Violence begets violence! By hitting your child, you send across the signal that hitting is the best method to put your thoughts across. Violence that you breed at home will result in violent attitude in the generations to come in your family because your child will hit the younger ones at home and on growing up, will hit his/her own kids too. Violence begins at home—much like charity does! Violent households result in a violent society.

9. As per Dr. Sears—a world-famous paediatric—In a prospective study spanning nineteen years, researchers found that children who were raised in homes with a lot of corporal punishment, turned out to be more antisocial and egocentric. It was found that physical violence became the accepted norm for these children, when they became teenagers and adults. In addition, college students showed more psychological disturbances, if they grew up in a home with less praise, more scolding, more corporal punishment, and more verbal abuse.

10. Now—the most serious and unexpected reason—as per Harvard University psychiatrists, verbal beatings hurt as much as sexual abuse!

Now, the next time you think of scolding, slapping or spanking your child...think of HOW WEAK YOU ARE as a parent! Your child deserves your love...if you can't give that love...you don't deserve to be a parent...simple! If you can't find better ways to put across your message, or if you feel that slappings and scoldings are the only methods by which your child listens to you...then it reflects YOUR IMMATURITY and INEFFICIENCY!

Don't blame the child. The child didn't arrive in this world with any instruction manual...It's your duty to give that instruction manual to your child...in form of a good upbringing...and you should be ready to tweak that instruction manual of yours...to suit your child's needs.

Remember, your child is a beautiful gift of God... a miracle!...stand up against the world for your child, but never stand up against your child! Spread love!!!

Avoid 10 Common Mistakes When Buying Baby Car Seat

Posted by SunbabyIndia at 01:01 0 comments
Sunbaby Car Seat & Carry Cots

Car seat safety isn't child's play. Understand 10 common mistakes parents make when installing and using car seats.

Car seat safety is crucial for protecting your child during travel, but knowing how to safely buckle up your child as he or she grows can be difficult. Check out 10 common mistakes parents often make when it comes to car seat safety — and how to avoid them.

1. Getting a used car seat without researching its history

If you're considering a used car seat for your child, make sure the car seat:
  • Comes with instructions and a label showing the manufacture date and model number
  • Hasn't been recalled
  • Isn't expired or more than 6 years old
  • Has no visible damage or missing parts
  • Has never been in a moderate or severe crash
  • If you don't know the car seat's history, don't use it.

2. Placing the car seat in the wrong spot

The safest place for your child's car seat is the back seat, away from active air bags. If the car seat is placed in the front seat and the air bag inflates, it could hit the back of a rear-facing car seat — right where your child's head is — and cause a serious or fatal injury. A child who rides in a forward-facing car seat could also be harmed by an air bag.

If it's necessary for a child to travel in a vehicle with only one row of seats, deactivate the front air bags or install a power switch to prevent air bag deployment during a crash.

If you're placing only one car seat in the back seat, install it in the centre of the seat — if a good fit is possible — rather than next to a door to minimise the risk of injury during a crash.

3. Using the car seat as a replacement crib

A car seat is designed to protect your child during travel. It's not for use as a replacement crib in your home. A 2009 study showed that sitting upright in a car seat might compress a newborn's chest and lead to lower levels of oxygen. Even mild airway obstruction can impair a child's development.

Sitting in a car seat for lengthy periods can also contribute to the development of a flat spot on the back of your baby's head and worsen gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) — a chronic digestive disease. In addition, a child can easily be injured by falling out of an improperly used car seat or while sitting in a car seat that falls from an elevated surface, such as a table.

Although it's essential to buckle your child into a car seat during travel, don't let your child sleep or relax in the car seat for long periods of time out of the car.

4. Incorrectly installing the car seat or buckling up your child

Before you install a car seat, read the manufacturer's instructions and the section on car seats in the vehicle's owners manual. Make sure the seat is tightly secured - allowing no more than 1 inch of movement from side to side or front to back when grasped at the bottom near the attachment points - and facing the correct direction.

If you're using an infant-only seat or a convertible seat in the rear-facing position, keep these tips in mind:
  • Use the harness slots described in the car seat's instruction manual, usually those at or below the child's shoulders.
  • Place the harness or chest clip even with your child's armpits — not the abdomen or neck.
  • Make sure the straps and harness lie flat against your child's chest and over his or her hips with no slack.
  • Position the car seat's carrying handle according to the manufacturer's instructions.

5. Reclining your child at the incorrect angle

In the rear-facing position, recline the car seat according to the manufacturer's instructions so that your child's head doesn't flop forward. Many seats include angle indicators or adjusters. You can also place a tightly rolled towel under the seat's front edge to achieve the right angle.

To prevent slouching, place tightly rolled baby blankets alongside your newborn. If necessary, place a rolled washcloth between the crotch strap and your baby to prevent slouching. Don't use any additional products unless they came with the car seat or from the manufacturer.

6. Moving to a forward-facing car seat too soon

Resist the urge to place your child's car seat in the forward-facing position just so that you can see his or her smile in your rear view mirror. Riding rear facing is recommended until a child reaches age 2 or the highest weight - typically at least 35 pounds (about 16 kilograms) - or height allowed by the car seat manufacturer.
You can start with a convertible seat, which can be used rear facing or forward facing and typically has a higher rear-facing weight and height limit than does an infant-only seat, or switch from an infant-only seat to the convertible variety as your baby grows.

When your child reaches age 2 or the rear-facing weight or height limit of the convertible seat, you can face the seat forward. When you make the switch:
  • Install the car seat in the back seat according to the manufacturer's instructions, using either the seat belt or Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system.
  • Use the tether strap — a strap that hooks to the top of the seat and attaches to an anchor in the vehicle — for extra stability.
  • Adjust the harness straps so that they're threaded at or above your child's shoulders. Make sure the harness fits snugly.

7. Dressing your child in bulky outerwear

Harness straps might not provide enough protection over a baby's bulky outerwear. If it's cold, dress your baby in a lightweight jacket and hat. Buckle the harness snugly and then tuck a blanket around your baby for warmth. Save the bulky outerwear for outdoors.

8. Moving to a booster seat too soon

Older children need booster seats to help an adult safety belt fit correctly. You can switch from a car seat to a booster seat when your child has topped the highest weight — typically 40 to 80 pounds (18 to 36 kilograms) — or height allowed by the car seat manufacturer. Remember, however, that your child is safest remaining in a car seat with a harness for as long as possible.

9. Incorrectly using a booster seat

Booster seats must be used with a lap and shoulder belt — never a lap-only belt. Make sure the lap belt lies low and snug across your child's upper thighs and that the shoulder belt crosses the middle of your child's chest and shoulder.

Some booster seats come without backs. Backless booster seats also must be used with a lap and shoulder belt — never a lap-only belt. If your vehicle has low seat backs or doesn't have a headrest to protect your child's head and neck in a crash, consider using a high-back booster that fits your child's height and weight.

10. Using the vehicle safety belt too soon

Most kids can safely use an adult seat belt sometime between ages 8 and 12. Here's how you'll know that your child is ready:
  • Your child reaches a height of 4 feet 9 inches (nearly 1.5 meters).
  • Your child sits against the back of the seat with his or her knees bent comfortably at the edge of the seat — and can remain that way for the entire trip.
  • The lap belt rests flat and snugly across your child's upper thighs, and the shoulder belt rests on the middle of your child's shoulder and chest — not on the neck or face.
  • Make sure your child doesn't tuck the shoulder belt under his or her arm or behind his or her back. Remember, the back seat is the safest place for children younger than age 13.

Posted by SunbabyIndia at 00:59 0 comments

Congratulations! Your wait is over and your newborn is finally here. Nothing can surpass the joy of newly attained parenthood. Once the initial surprise and elation turns into an everyday routine, taking care of a newborn can become monotonous.

In the initial months, your newborn gets attached to you the most. The way you connect with your baby in these months plays a crucial role in your baby's language formation, social intelligence, logical thinking, emotional connect and overall development.

There are various activities for newborn babies that you can get involved in and enjoy the joys of motherhood.

Top Activities with Newborn Baby:

If you thought that your new born baby will only sleep and wake up for meals, then it's time to rethink! Here are the top 10 activities to do with newborn babies:

All babies have an affinity towards music. Melodies have a soothing effect on babies and can boost their memory as well as mental skills.
  • Play different genres of music when your darling is awake and see which music relaxes him and which annoys him.
  • Some music might charge him up while some will make him sleep.
  • It is essential to be present along with your baby while the music is playing.
  • Your touch and voice may accentuate the benefits. Sing along and encourage your baby to do so too.
  • Besides making your baby happy, music will also help calm you.

Record Your Baby's Move:

Each moment with your baby is unique and shall never come back, so make sure you capture them.
  • Record your baby's special moments through pictures or videos.
  • Use different accessories and props to make it entertaining for your infant.

  • Share these with your spouse and near and dear ones. It will be amazing to watch these together when your baby grows up.

Emote:

It is a wonderful game to play with your munchkin.
  • When your baby is awake and playful, hold him close and try to talk with animated gestures and expressions.
  • Vary the pitch of your voice. You will be amazed to see how your baby reacts to your actions. This will help your baby learn and recognize emotions and increase the attention span of your baby.
  • This activity can help your infant in early language identification and is a great way to strengthen your bond.

Play Hide And Seek:

Play hide and seek with your newborn but not in the regular way.
  • Play hide and seek with your newborn but not in the regular way.
  • Call his name or whistle or make any different kind of noise.

  • This activity can increase the alertness in your baby.
  • When your baby finds you, pick him up and shower him with your love. This will create a happy emotional bonding.

Co-ordination Activity:

Introduce your baby to toys and colorful things.
  • Hang different colorful toys just above your baby's bed or cradle.

What things to remember when buying a first car seat for your baby

Posted by SunbabyIndia at 00:22 0 comments

Travelling with a baby can be a stressful experience, especially if you are a new parent. You suddenly become conscious of every danger on the road and drive defensively to ensure your baby's safety. It is in your best interest to make sure you have the safest car seat available for your infant.

An important item that you will need to bring your baby home safely is a baby car seat. Are you clueless about how to choose a best baby car seat for safety and comfort during his first drive?
There are many factors to take into account when shopping for a car seat to ensure maximum safety and comfort for your child.

Find out in this post some handy tips to help you make the right choice while choosing a baby car seat.

What Are The Weight Limits For Car Seats?

Most car seats have similar weight limits. You can use one in a rear facing position till the time your baby weighs 30 pounds. You can use a car seat in a forward facing position till the time he weighs 40 pounds. Some latest models of car seats even allow as much weight as 80 pounds in a forward facing position.

LATCH System (Lower Anchors and Tether for Children):

Almost all new models of car seats are available with the LATCH system.
The LATCH system helps you attach the car seat directly to your car seat instead of using the seat belt. It makes it easier to use and safer for your baby than the older versions.
The car seats have bottom straps as well as a top tether. However, while you are using the seat in a rear facing position, the manufacturer may ask you to avoid using the top tether. Make sure you follow all safety and installation instructions.

Five-Point Safety Harness:

A five-point safety harness will have the following:
  • A strap for each shoulder.
  • A strap for each thigh.
  • A strap that goes between your baby's legs.
These straps are adjustable and hence safe and comfortable for your baby.

Side Impact Protection:

A side impact protection feature helps keep your baby safe in the event of a collision.
Some baby car seats come with a special type of foam that helps absorb the intensity of an impact. The seats have a safe design to protect your baby especially around the head and chest.

Easy To Clean:

You need to be careful about hygiene if you have a baby around.
  • Check for a car seat that has a separate cover.
  • Choose one, which has an easy to clean cover that you can either toss in the washing machine or wipe with a damp cloth.

Easy To Adjust:

  • A car seat lasts long; it means you will need to adjust it as per the demands of your growing baby.
  • Check for a seat that has straps and a harness you can easily adjust.
  • You can operate some models single handedly for quick use too.
Make sure you test the new baby seat in your car for compatibility before buying a car seat.

What features to look for in a Baby Stroller?

Posted by SunbabyIndia at 03:05 0 comments
Sunbaby Brave Heart Lion Stroller

Just as the types of strollers have expanded over the years, so has the number of features. Some stroller features will make your baby's ride safer and more comfortable while others, such as cup holders, shopping baskets and canopy, are aimed at parents.

Here are some of the stroller features likely to affect your child's well being the most.

1. Handlebar

A height-adjustable or telescoping handlebar makes pushing the stroller more comfortable - and it's a must for ergonomic stroller-pushing if you and your partner aren't roughly the same height.

2. Canopy

Be sure to open and close the canopy in the store, paying attention to any loud noises that might startle a snoozing wee one.

3. Fold

One of the top things to look for in a stroller is how easily and compactly it folds. An easy one-hand fold is a huge plus when you're juggling a squirmy baby.

4. Basket

You have to carry a lot, so take some time to test the ease of putting things in and taking things out of the basket. And make sure it's big enough for your needs.

5. Brakes and locks

Some strollers allow you to lock the wheels at the handlebar, while others have a foot brake and lock. Plus, many three-wheeled strollers also have a front-wheel lock for added stability during long walks. Try out models with the different options to see which you prefer.

6. Shocks

Many strollers now come outfitted with shocks to give little ones a less bumpy ride, whether you're navigating busy city sidewalks or strolling along suburban pathways.

7. Wheels

Rubber-coated plastic wheels are standard and work well in the city. But if you're more active or live in a rural area, pneumatic (compressed-air-filled) or foam-filled tires offer a smoother ride. Inline-skate-style wheels are a newer feature designed to roll smoothly and quietly.

8. Seats

Many strollers allow for use of different types of seats, including car seats or bassinets for infants, and some can turn into a double stroller for a growing family. Many models also have extendable seat and footrest features to keep your little one comfy as he grows.

If you made it, congratulations: you're a legitimate stroller expert! Now, if you're a go-getter, you can go to our Best Stroller Collection, browse the strollers and pick what's best for your baby.

How To Keep Babies Cool in this Hot Weather

Posted by SunbabyIndia at 23:52 0 comments
Summer is such a bright and beautiful season! At least that is how it looks like in the movies! However, if you ask a mother, she will have some horror stories to share about this season.
Beating the heat is a challenge we all face every summer. The rising temperature can be unbearable for your baby during the harsh season. You need to be smart to tackle the scorching sun and help your baby enjoy her first summer. So what can you do?

Read below to know some handy tips on how to keep a baby cool in hot season.

Simple Steps to Keep Babies Cool In Summer:

1. Dress Her Right:

You do not need to spend a lot to buy an all-new summer wardrobe for your baby. Just dress her right way. Dress your baby in loose, light, cotton clothes. While going out, make sure your little one wears light colors. Your baby can wear a hat to complete her summer look.

2. Ensure Proper Ventilation:

Babies tend to overheat quickly as they do not have an inner thermostat to regulate the heat. Never leave your baby in a stuffy room. Open the windows in her room to ensure proper ventilation. It will help your baby adjust to the heat and stay cool. Do not leave your baby alone in a car. Babies may suffer from a terminal heat stroke if they spend a few minutes in a locked car during summers.

3. Use A Comfortable Baby Carrier:

For many women, the baby carrier is the one thing that keeps their backs in good shape. It is unrealistic to expect a mother to carry her baby everywhere. However, baby carriers can be very uncomfortable for babies. Carriers made of nylon are better options than denim ones. Limit the time your baby stays in the carrier. The moment your baby looks uneasy, remove her from the carrier. Doing so will ensure that she stays cool and comfortable.
Now Carry your baby in a safe and comfortable manner in Sunbaby Strollers. Made form high quality stuff with Canopy to protect your baby from direct sunlight.

4. Increase The Fluid Intake:

The danger of dehydration looms large, for babies during summers. To keep dehydration at bay make sure your baby has fluids frequently. You are welcome to give your baby all varieties of fluids including Breast milk, formula, water, and juices. Your baby's body needs those extra fluids to keep cool in the hot weather. Increase your infant's fluid intake by as much as 50 percent during summers.

5. Stay Indoors:

With temperatures soaring, make sure your little one spends most of her time indoors. If you have to take her out, make sure it is before 10 am or after 4 pm. You can postpone your family picnics for fair weather so that your baby can enjoy too.

6. Look For Shade:

Do not worry, you can still visit the beach or spend some time in the park during summers. Just make sure that your baby spends most of her time in the shade. Exposure to the harsh sun rays during summers is avoidable for your baby. So carry an umbrella, or look for a tree that will give your baby some respite from the scorching sun.

7. Buy A Table Fan:

During a heat wave, you need to go the extra mile to keep your baby cool. Add a table fan in your baby's room to increase the ventilation and keep her cool. Keep the fan out of your baby's reach to prevent any accident.

8. Let Her Make A Splash:

Water is your baby's best friend when it comes to beating the heat. So go for a swim with your baby. Make sure the pool is cool and clean. You can also let her splash around at home. Just fill her paddling pool with water and let her splash some fun!

9. Air Conditioning:

If you have an air conditioner at home, you do not have to worry about the heat outside. If you do not have one, steal some cool air! Summer is the perfect time to visit the museum, library, and restaurant – anywhere you can find air conditioning! It is a smart way to keep your baby cool during a heat wave!

10. Give Her A Daily Bath:

Bathing is the easiest and cheapest way when it comes to keeping babies cool in hot weather. Give your baby a bath every day during the hot season, preferably before bedtime. It will cool her little body down and help her sleep better too.

These simple measures will go a long way in keeping your baby safe during the sweltering heat. What is good for your baby is good for you too.
